CCA Land Use Committee Meets with Jane Usher
Ms. Jane Usher , President of the City Planning Commission, joined CCA's Housing, Land Use & Development Committee this week to discuss her priorities for 2007, including improving the planning process and building "elegant density" in Los Angeles.  Ms. Usher supports CCA in the effort to fashion a Downtown with "as much density as it can tolerate," and build density along transit corridors.
Recently, CCA presented Ms. Usher with a white paper recommending several steps Los Angeles should take to reform its convoluted development process.  Ms. Usher indicated that she and the Planning Commission had reviewed the document and will be releasing a report on development reform within the month.  Ms. Gail Goldberg , Director of City Planning, has also reviewed the document.  CCA has made development reform a top priority for 2007 and looks forward to working with Ms. Usher on this important topic.

• CCA's Vice President of Legislative Affairs, Ms. Veronica Perez Becker, met with several business groups and CCA members to discuss the status of the campaign for a living wage referendum and a strategy for opposing the Council's living wage extension.  Council will vote on whether to move forward with the referendum or rescind the ordinance in the coming weeks.

• In response to a number of condo conversion-related ordinances before the City, a CCA subcommittee has been meeting this week to draft an alternative plan for Council's consideration.  The plan recommends, among other things, that the amount of tenant relocation fees be tied to need, as oppose to the flat fee that the Planning Department has recommended.

• CCA's Government Relations Committee met this week and interviewed candidates for Council District 14 and LAUSD School Board District 3.  The Committee made recommendations that will be  forwarded to the Executive Committee in February.  The Government Relations Committee will meet next week to interview candidates for LAUSD School Board Districts 1, 5 & 7.
