CCA Crafts Tenant Relocation Plan
In response to a number of condo conversion-related ordinances before the City Council, a CCA subcommittee  drafted an alternative plan for Council's consideration.  The plan recommends, among other things, that the amount of tenant relocation assistance be tied to need, as oppose to the flat fee that the Planning Department has recommended.
This plan is a key component of CCA's response to the Planning Department's efforts to make condo conversions increasingly financially infeasible.  In preparation for a joint PLUM and HCED hearing on tenant relocation next week, CCA met with the offices of Councilmembers Herb Wesson , Eric Garcetti , Jose Huizar , Tony Cardenas , and Ed Reyes to explain and advocate for CCA's proposal.
The subcommittee members include:  Cindy Starrett , Latham & Watkins ; Kate Bartolo , Kor Group ; Sheri Bonstelle, Jeffer Mangels ; Tara Bannister , California Apartment Association ; Kristen Montet Lonner , Cerrell ; and Dale Goldsmith , Armbruster & Goldsmith
CCA Raises Concerns with Proposed Congestion Mitigation Fee
CCA's Housing, Land Use & Development Committee and Transportation & Infrastructure Committee met with MTA Consultant Bob Spencer of MuniFinancial to discuss MTA's proposed congestion mitigation fee.  This fee could potentially be imposed on all new development in Los Angeles County in order to fund regional traffic mitigation projects.   CCA expressed numerous concerns related to the fee structure, implementation plan, and potential return on investment.
CCA will hold an additional meeting on this important issue within the coming months.  In addition, a stakeholder group comprised of public and private interests, of which CCA is a part, meets monthly in Downtown.

• CCA's President & CEO Carol Schatz taped an interview with KCET "Life and Times" Moderator David Lehrer on the living wage referendum.  The broadcast date is TBD.

• CCA's Government Relations Committee interviewed candidates for LAUSD School Board Districts 1, 5 and 7.  The Committee made recommendations which will be presented at the Executive Committee meeting on February 1st.

• CCA's President & CEO Carol Schatz met privately with Cynthia Ruiz, President of the Board of Public Works, to  discuss the Keep L.A. Beautiful (KLAB) initiative.  KLAB is a program designed to improve neighborhoods through beautification projects, such as tree and flower planting, painting out graffiti, and picking up litter.  An advisory board, of which CCA is a part, will begin meeting next week.

• CCA staff attended the SCI Skid Row Outreach meeting this week.  This is an important forum for community members to share information and provide feedback to the City on the Safer Cities Initiative, which brought 50 additional police officers to Skid Row.

CCA IN THE NEWS

"Carol Schatz, president and chief executive officer of the Central City Association of Los Angeles... welcomed local leaders' participation in citywide affairs.

"'For business, there might be little things different - a transit corridor here, an interchange there - but basically they're the same everywhere in L.A. ,' she said. 'Once the secession movement was put to bed, which it appears has happened, thank God, it allowed for people to do what's best for the city overall.'" Daily News , Jan. 27, "S.F. Valley Gains Clout in L.A." by Brent Hopkins.

" The concern about overburdening taxpayers was raised by Veronica Perez Becker, a vice president of the Central City Assn.

"'Before imposing more taxes on your constituents, we urge you to take a careful look at the collective impact of recent tax increases,' Becker told the council." L.A. Times , Jan. 24, " Tax to Fight Gangs Set For Ballot ," by Patrick McGreevy and Steve Hymon.
