Council Approves Needs-Based Tenant Relocation Plan

City Council approved Councilmember Herb Wesson's needs-based tenant relocation proposal on Wednesday.  The proposal incorporated critical elements of a needs-based plan that CCA presented to the City two months ago.  Relocation payments range from $6,810 to $17,080 under the proposal, which targets the most relocation assistance to low income tenants and long-term leasers.

In the weeks leading up to the hearing, CCA spearheaded lobbying efforts by CCA and other business leaders to defeat City recommendations that would have, among other things, increased tenant relocation assistance without considering income-based need or length of tenancy.

CCA would like to thank Councilmember Wesson for his leadership on this difficult issue.  We also thank his staff, including Andrew Westall , and CCA members Kate Bartolo from the  Kor Group  and chair of the subcommittee on the matter; Tara Bannister from California Apartment Association ; Sheri Bonstelle from  Jeffer Mangels Cindy Starrett, Marcos Velayos, and Heather Crossner from Latham & Watkins; Craig Lawson from Craig Lawson and Co. ; Kristen Montet Lonner from Cerrell ; and Daniel Gryczman from Manatt , for all of their time and effort in crafting a needs-based plan to present to Council, as well as all of the other members and business leaders who helped make this success possible.

The proposal represents an important step in moving towards a needs-based structure that distinguishes between wealthy and low-income tenants.

CCA Transportation Committee Discusses California High-Speed Rail

CCA's Transportation & Infrastructure Committee met with consultants working on the Anaheim - Los Angeles and Los Angeles - Palmdale segments of the proposed California High- Speed Rail.  The segments are currently undergoing a project-level environmental review.  The train system has the potential to transport people between Los Angeles and San Francisco in under 2.5 hours.   CCA will draft a letter in support of the system and bring it to the next Committee meeting for the Committee's review and approval.

CCA welcomes new chair, David Wright of Plains All American Pipeline L.P. , and vice chair, Michael Kelly  of Boeing Company to the Committee.  CCA thanks past chair David Grannis , Planning Company Associates , and vice chair Dana Reed , Reed & Davidson, LLP , for their dedication and leadership.
