Yaroslavsky Visits CCA Executive Committee
CCA's Executive Committee met on Thursday, June 1st at the Centerpointe Club in Playa Vista, joined by special guest
County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky
. Yaroslavsky touched on many subjects including: County health services, the state of King/Drew Medical Center, Sheriff's prison release policy, child welfare, transportation, and immigration.
The Executive Committee took action on several items, including voting to support DWP's proposed power and water rate increases and a revised CUP at Sunshine Canyon landfill to combine City and County operations into a single working face. The rate increase proposal should be before the City Council in early August. The County Board of Supervisors will decide on the revised Sunshine Canyon CUP on Wednesday, June 7th (regular Tuesday meeting rescheduled due to Primary Elections). The Committee also voted to support the framework for an industrial land policy brought forward by CCA's Housing, Land Use & Development Committee.

Condo Conversion Update
On May 31st, CCA attended and testified at the third and last of the three citywide, joint PLUM and HCED, public hearings held regarding the loss of rental and rent-controlled units to condo conversions and demolitions.
CCA would again like to thank members,
Tara Bannister
, from the
California Apartment Association
,
Mark Tarczynski
, from
CB Richard Ellis
,
Michael Cohn
, from
Countrywide Home Loans
, and
Kate Bartolo
, from the
KOR Realty Group
who also served as CCA's representative at these hearings, for attending and testifying at the proceedings.
Through testimony and private meeting with Councilmember Wesson, CCA and its members were able to successfully convey valuable information regarding the significance of market forces with regards to condo conversions and the importance of fostering a healthy housing market and economy in Los Angeles, uninhibited by short-term restrictive regulation.
CCA will continue to monitor all developments.
Industrial Land Update
This week, stakeholders in Hollywood received their first glimpse at City proposed recommendations for industrially-zoned lots in their neighborhood. The planning staff has prepared maps indicating which M-zones should remain industrial and which should be rezoned. These recommendations come after 6 months of study of industrial land in Downtown, Hollywood, and on the Westside. Full recommendations regarding Downtown and the Westside should be available this month.
This week, CCA voted in support of the policy framework drafted by a CCA subcommittee lead by
Kate Bartolo
,
Kor Group
. The policy emphasizes grandfathering provisions, job creation through incentives, and compatible mixed-use projects through overlay zones. CCA is in the process of gathering support for the policy framework from other business organizations.
