LADWP Once-Through Cooling Study
Under statewide policy, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is required to eliminate use of ocean water for cooling (once-through cooling, or OTC) at its coastal natural gas plants under a strict timetable negotiated with the State Water Resources Control Board. In 2017, LADWP paused all in-basin natural gas unit repowering projects in order to conduct a comprehensive independent study to develop clean energy alternatives to the planned repowering. Join us for a briefing on the independent study’s methodology, findings, and recommendations.
Special Guest: Louis Ting, LADWP
California High-Speed Rail
The CA High Speed Rail (HSR) Authority recently released its 2018 Business Plan, including updated estimates of project cost, ridership, schedule, and benefits. High speed rail was originally planned to start with a connection from the Central Valley to LA, but will now connect to the Bay Area first and LA later. The current cost estimate is $77 billion for the full project from the Bay Area to LA, with a completion date of 2033. Hear from a representative of the HSR Authority about the updated Business Plan and the future of the project.
Special Guest: Michelle Boehm, California High Speed Rail Authority
Main & Spring Forward
LADOT recently implemented the first phase of Main & Spring Forward, a redesign of streetscapes on the two Historic Core streets. The City has already moved the bike lane from the west side to the east side of Spring Street and added bollards and other temporary materials. Join us to learn more about the plans for continued updates and to provide feedback on the proposed changes.
