Councilmember Bonin recently introduced a motion asking for the City to consider a vacancy tax for empty residential units. This item would have to be approved by voters and may be placed on the March or November 2020 ballot. The tax is being proposed to address the housing crisis by penalizing property owners who have vacant units and dedicating proceeds from the tax to affordable housing. Join us to discuss this proposal.
