BuildLA Progress and Updates

Launched in June 2019, BuildLA’s objective is to make it easier and faster for developers to navigate City processes - from permits to project tracking - by coordinating across all the departments involved in development including Building and Safety, LAFD, Bureau of Engineering, and City Planning. By streamlining these services, BuildLA was created to save time, reduce costs, and improve transparency for both developers and the public.

Hear from Alfred Mata, Interim City Engineer, on how BuildLA is progressing and how the private sector can enhance its impact.

Special Guest: Alfred Mata, Interim City Engineer, Bureau of Engineering

Building an Affordable California Act: CEQA Reform for Essential Projects

Expected to appear on the November 2026 ballot, the Building an Affordable California Act (BACA) will accelerate project review and permitting by streamlining CEQA. BACA establishes strict, enforceable deadlines for agency review to expedite "essential projects” such as housing, healthcare, clean energy, and infrastructure. If approved by the voters, BACA would represent one of the most significant CEQA reforms in decades.
