This week, we held our Summit on Homelessness at The Sheraton Grand. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas gave the keynote speech emphasizing the urgency of homelessness and teased the poll that was released today that shows that 95% of LA voters say homelessness is the biggest issue. Garrett Gin, Market Executive for Greater Los Angeles at Bank of America, shared how Bank of America thinks about ways to comprehensively address homelessness and then introduced the panelists. The panel consisted of top thought leaders from a variety of fields with expertise on homelessness, including Mike Arnold, President & CEO of The Midnight Mission; Charmaine Atherton, Senior Vice President & Senior Relationship Manager for Bank of America's Community Development Banking Group; Theane Evangelis, Partner at Gibson Dunn; Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, President & CEO of LA Family Housing with moderator Kerry Morrison, Founder of Heart Forward LA. They discussed a range of topics, including the cost of building and providing services at supportive housing, our fragmented mental health care system and legal issues that constrain our ability to house homeless people. This was a fantastic, dynamic discussion and we are proud to have engaged our members on this important topic.
Thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, Bank of America, and Supporting Sponsor, Charter Communications, for their commitment to this issue.
