On Tuesday, CCA hosted the first installment of our new webinar series focused on highlighting innovation across various industries that have been affected by COVID-19. We kicked off the series with a panel on the tourism industry, which has an enormous impact in bolstering our region's economy. Doane Liu, Executive Director of LA Department of Convention and Tourism Development, moderated a panel with Adam Burke, President & CEO of LA Tourism and Convention Board; Javier Cano, VP and Market GM of The Ritz-Carlton LA and JW Marriott LA LIVE; and Rachel Moore, President & CEO of The Music Center.
The event started with Jessica Lall, President & CEO of CCA, opening up with how LA is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, welcoming more than 50 million visitors in 2018, and how we can rebound despite challenges presented by COVID-19. Doug Shankman, Co-Founder of Aerify Solutions, introduced Doane Liu who then introduced the panelists. The panelists covered a range of interesting topics, including how the pandemic has impacted them, how they are adapting to this "new normal," and how they are staying positive and being proactive for the future. They discussed consumer confidence, safety measures, the rise of staycations, the increase in digital literacy, and how they've pivoted to outdoor dining and digital performances/events. They emphasized that DTLA is in a great position to provide safe places to welcome people.
