For far too long, L.A. city leadership has shied away from investing and maintaining capital assets that can bolster against economic downturns. Today, we took an important step in changing the tide. The City Council directed staff to finalize a project agreement to expand and modernize the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The Convention Center is a major economic engine in the heart of the city—currently operating at less than full capacity and unable to host the country’s most sought-after conventions. There is simply no other shovel-ready public infrastructure project in L.A. that can generate this magnitude of good-paying jobs, direct city revenue, and indirect economic impact. This project is an investment in the businesses, workers and communities that will ensure L.A.’s future prosperity.
