Lifting the curfew is a necessary step toward reopening Downtown Los Angeles and supporting the businesses, workers, and residents who rely on evening access. Moving forward, we need a proactive safety strategy to protect commercial corridors and apply precision in preventing criminal activity while respecting peaceful protests.
To ensure a secure Downtown amid potential protests or unrest, we encourage the City to deploy a specialized task force to monitor for criminal activity, increase officer presence, and expand foot patrols throughout the area. These immediate actions will help maintain public confidence and keep the neighborhood safe.
At the same time, long-term investments in safety infrastructure, including improved lighting, targeted economic development, and community-based services, are critical to ensure Downtown remains strong, vibrant, and ready for major global events.
