CCA STATEMENT: A Landmark Win: Convention Center Expansion Approved

A Once-in-a-Generation Victory for Los Angeles

Published Friday, September 19, 2025

Today marks a transformational moment for our city. Los Angeles leaders have approved the long-awaited expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center — a project CCA has championed for years.

This is more than an expansion. It is one of the most important investments in the future of Los Angeles — a project that will:

  • Create nearly 9,000 good-paying jobs including 1,600 apprenticeships and career pathways into the middle class for Angelenos
  • $1.8 billion in additional local business sales
  • $103 million in tax revenue for city services
  • 3.6 million visitors
  • And more customers for hotels, restaurants, and our local small businesses.

For more than a decade, this project was studied, debated, and delayed. Every year of inaction came at a price: higher costs, missed opportunities, and a weakened competitive edge. CCA never wavered. We consistently championed policies and actions to move the project forward, building the rare alignment of business, labor, and community that made today’s victory possible.

We are proud to have led this effort alongside our coalition partners. We also want to thank Mayor Bass and the City Council for supporting this critical investment. This achievement is proof of what Los Angeles can accomplish when we choose to deliver instead of delay.

And with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, and the 2028 Olympics on the horizon, the world will be watching. Thanks to the strong partnerships we built, Los Angeles will not only be ready — we will shine.

This expansion is more than a milestone. It ushers in a new era of promise, growth, and revitalization for Downtown and all of Los Angeles.
